ok so i love to play around with my makeup! i really only use eyeline tho. you got any ways that i can play around with my makeup that look different but not in a ugly way? please tell me if you do and explain how to do it

Well if you mainly use eyeliner, you can always shape your eye differently with using just eyeliner. Your possibilities are endless

For example, you could make cat eyes or make wings at the end of your eye to create a more narrow or longer shape of your eye. Even changing how much eyeliner you put on or where you put it can change a lot. If you make the top a lot thicker, round the edge, and instead of putting it on the bottom waterline, you could put a thin line on your lower lash line giving the image of an 'anime-like' eye.

Random tip, If you use eyeliner and you want it to maintain throughout the day without smearing or wearing off, you can always use a black/dark brown eyeshadow. After lining your eye with the basic shape and size you want with your eyeliner like usual, take an angled brush, put a drop of water or eye drops on either the brush or the eyeshadow and use the angled brush & wet eyeshadow as sort of a liquid liner. After that, wash off the brush, make sure it's dry (or use another angled brush) and then re-line it with dry shadow. This keeps your eyeliner on all day, its great. This is an ongoing debate within the candle and bath/body industries as well as among consumers.  To fully understand the debate you need to know the difference between fragrance and essential.

Definition

Fragrance oils are synthetic (man made); produced by chemists in laboratories.  FDA lists guidelines for companies to follow in order to protect the consumer from toxic oils. The majority of candle fragrances are created using fragrance oils.  There is no plant or bark that naturally smells like cotton candy.

Essential oils are derived from plant matter, such as the leaves, stems, flower buds, and bark.  Orange or rosemary are naturally occuring scents produced from plants.

Which One is Better? 

Fragrance oils come in a wide variety of choices to produce a variety of aromas.  If you want the smell of beer or dirt, chemists have created it!  The synthetic properties of the oil allow it to emit a strong scent at a reasonable price.  A good example of offering reasonably priced fragranced soy candles can be found at Harvest Glow, LLC.

Essential oils are not as abdundant.  Actually, a few oils are being over-harvested due to the rising demand of essential oils. It takes aout 30 rose petals to produce one tiny drop of rose oil! The process of extracting oil from the plant actually breaks down it's vitamin and nutrient benefits. Essential oils used in candles cannot be absorbed into the body, there are no known therapeutic benefits to burning a candle made with essential oils.  Essential oils as well as fragrance oils are known to produce psychological effects that is some cases can be just as strong as the therapeutic effects.

Pure essential oils are great for aromatherapy when used in diffusers or massage aides. The price tag is fairly steep, however; rare essential oils are as much as a couple hundred per ounce!  Fragrance oils can provide a stronger burning candle at a fraction of the cost.

It basically comes down to each individual's preference and use requirements.

Essential oils can be used in fragrances to create customized scents. Often times perfumes or colognes which are sold in the store are very inexpensive to make, however they are very expensive to purchase. What the public is paying for generally, is product promotion, marketing and packing of the product. Because perfume and cologne is mass-produced, a lot of people will be wearing the same scent. If you are an individual who looks to stand out from the crowd, who would simply prefer a more personalized fragrance or who is concerned about the chemicals in store brought perfumes, you can use essential oils to make your own fragrances.

At first glance, you may think that this might be too expensive. However, it's important to note, that it only takes a few drops of your favorite essential oil to make a fragrance. If you're just starting out and if you're not sure about which particular scent that you want to use or if you are just experimenting, a good size to start off with is a dram. A dram is essentially a sample size.

To make your own fragrance, you will need about 2.5 ounces of vodka (hundred proof). You will need the essential oils of your choice, 2 tablespoons of spring or distilled water. You need to add the essential oils to the alcohol and let it sit for 48 hours. Next add the water, stir the mixture and then let it sit for 48 more hours. Add more water or oil, if needed. You will need to let the mixture sit for between 4-6 weeks if you want the fragrance to have a strong smell and not fade easily. Common essential oils used in the fragrances include juniper oil, lavender oil, ylang ylang and carnation.

Essential oils, which are the natural oils found in flowers, plants and fruits have many good uses. They can used to improve mood, treat small cuts and abrasions and even to make one’s very own fragrance. It’s very simple to make your own scent that includes all of your favorite smells and essential oils. As a result, you will not only smell fantastic, but you will also get to enjoy the other benefits of essential oil. It only takes a few drops of essential oil to create your very own scent, that you will love to put on everyday or for special occasions. It may take some time to find just the right mixture to make an acceptable fragrance, if you are up to experiment. If you’re not up to it, you can purchase a fragrance recipe book.

Have you noticed lately that many household cleaning products and deodorizers are scented with “aromatherapy essentials” or with “Jasmine” or some other exotic fragrance like “Calming”?  Do they really add essential oils to dishwashing detergent in quantities significant enough to be of any value and are they therapeutic grade?  Well, of course not but with a growing popular interest in health and wellness, essential oils and aromatherapy make great marketing even when products only have artificially produced scents “inspired” by aromatherapy plant essences.

Most consumer products use fragrance oils to achieve their scent and although some mimic the scent of well known essential oils they are quite different.

Essential oils are natural and fragrance oils are synthetic

Essential oils are the natural aromatic oils that are extracted from plants.  Technically they are not oils at all but complex mixtures of organic compounds that exist within the cells of the plant.  Each essential oil is derived from a single plant source and depending on the species is extracted from the flower petals, leaves, stems, roots, rind of the fruit, seeds, or even the wood of trees.  It is likely these compounds have evolved over time to aid the plants in survival by providing resistance to disease or by attracting pollinating insects with their fragrance.

Fragrance oils are man-made organic mixtures that are engineered by chemists to produce an attractive scent.  This can be anything from “Lilacs” to “New Car” scent.  Although fragrance oils may contain essential oils as ingredients they will also contain animal and synthetic fixatives, and synthetic compounds derived from petroleum.

Essential oils are therapeutic and fragrance oils are not

Essential oils are not only fragrant but they are also therapeutic and have been used for centuries, medicinally and cosmetically to improve physical and psychological health and well being.  Specific pharmacological effects are produced by essential oils through skin absorption and inhalation, which is the very basis of Aromatherapy, a widely used form of natural alternative medicine.

Fragrance oils are used to scent hundreds of consumer products and their sole purpose is to improve the smell of the product.  Although fragrance oils may contain many ingredients, they are biologically less complex than essential oils and provide no therapeutic benefits.

Why do most commercial products use fragrance oils?

With such a profound difference, why do most commercial products use fragrance oils and not essential oils?  The main reason is cost but there are issues with supply and the range of scent as well.

The harvesting of plant materials and the production of essential oils can be very costly.  Some plants such as lavender are grown on commercial farms and are harvested mechanically.  But many are hand picked and in some cases from plants that grow in wild habitat.  The yield of oil from the plant material is very small and can range from as much as 10% to as little at 0.02% by weight.  The highly prized rose and jasmine essential oils are both derived from hand picked blossoms that yield only 0.02% oil by weight of fresh blossoms.  Fragrance oils on the other hand, can be mass produced from relatively inexpensive organic chemicals.

Being crop-based, the supply of plant material and yield of oil will vary from year to year and some plant species have limited habitat.  The supply of many essential oils is too limited and unreliable to economically serve the needs of large scale commercial production.

The essential oil industry is analogous to the wine industry.  The quality of the final product will vary according to the plant subspecies, the growing conditions and the manufacturing.  This variability is not suited to the mass production market.

Only a very tiny percentage of plant species can economically yield usable essential oils and although the range of scent is tremendous, all essential oils have a “natural" fragrance.  So if you want to produce the scent of “fresh baked bread” or for that matter “Lily of the Valley”, you have to use fragrance oil.

Are there products available that use essential oils?

Yes.  Essential oils are the perfect choice for adding fragrance to skin care and bath and body products that are made with natural ingredients.  By selecting the right combination of oils, it is possible to achieve a wonderful scent and also enjoy the therapeutic benefits of the oils.  The essential oils complement these products.  They treat many skin conditions, contribute to healthier skin, relieve aches and pains and have a balancing effect on your mood and sense of well being.

Natural perfumes made exclusively from essential oils can also have a positive effect on your mood.  They can reduce anxiety and stress, combat fatigue or be invigorating and stimulating.  They tend to be softer than most commercial perfumes produced with fragrance oils.  Essential oil based fragrances are not overpowering, and are less likely to irritate you and the people around you than commercial, synthetic scents.

It's your choice

Knowing the difference between fragrance oils and essential oils is an important first step in deciding which products are most suited to your needs.  Mass produced low cost consumer products will use fragrance oils to produce an attractive scent.  This is perfectly acceptable for dishwashing detergent but shouldn’t your face cream use pure essential oils?  Don’t be fooled by the marketing.  Read the labels carefully and make your choice.
